NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Thinks ‘The Bachelor’ is Killing Romance

PageSix.com:
There’s at least one person out there who isn’t excited to watch Nick Viall’s journey on “The Bachelor.”

In a guest column for The Hollywood Reporter, former NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar attacked the show, warning viewers, “There is an insidious darkness beneath the fairytale pabulum they are serving up.”

He goes on to explain the short-term effects of the ABC show are harmless, but the long-term effects can “have serious consequences,” just like with “smoking” or “listening to Kenny G.”

“These shows promote the scorched-earth effects of raising females to be continually judged physically above all other attributes and then measured against impossible physical standards that has marginalized a majority of girls and women,” Abdul-Jabbar writes. “The real crime is the lack of intellectual and appearance diversity, which leaves the contestants as interchangeable as the Mr. Potato Head parts.”

He concluded, “The real danger is when we try to apply that fantasy thinking to our own lives. And when we think about where our children learn about the realities of romance, it becomes even more important to question what may influence their behavior in choosing a partner.”

Who needs a rose when you’ve got a whole bouquet?

Selma Alameri, who competed on Sean Lowe’s season of The Bachelor, has found her happily ever after with Patrick Daniels, whom she married in a low-key city hall ceremony on Thursday.

The 29-year-old San Diego real estate developer took to Instagram to make the announcement.

“Getting married!” she captioned a photo of herself in a knee-length white dress, black heels and a bouquet of red and white flowers. The bride wore her hair loose and kept her makeup simple with a pop of red lipstick.

In another photo that shows her getting a kiss on the cheek from her new husband, Alameri wrote, “It’s official!!! Mr. and Mrs. Daniels!!” adding the hashtag #cityhallstyle.

Amanda Stanton and Josh Murray Reunite in Atlanta Ahead of Appearing on a New 'Bachelor' Special

USmagazine.com:
Back to paradise? Josh Murray and Amanda Stanton experienced a bumpy end to 2016, but the Bachelor in Paradise alums were spotted together on Wednesday, December 28, just a few weeks after multiple sources confirmed to Us Weekly that the pair had split, and days before they are set to appear together on a new Bachelor special.

Murray and Stanton were all smiles as they posed for a pic with a fan at a Free People clothing store in the Lenox Square mall in his hometown of Atlanta on December 28. The fan's brother, JohnMark Conklin, posted the photo to Twitter.

A source tells Us that the Bachelor Nation faves seemed relaxed and were discussing their New Year's Eve plans, although it was unclear if they would be ringing in 2017 together.

The pair have not addressed their rumored split but are likely to give an update on their romance when they appear together on the new special The Bachelor: Countdown to Nick, airing on ABC on Sunday, January 1, a day before Nick Viall's season 21 premiere. Other Bachelor Nation couples taking part in the special include Sean and Catherine Lowe, Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell, Kaitlyn Bristowe and Shawn Booth, and Paradise season 3 lovebirds Carly Waddell and Evan Bass.

Izzy Goodkind: I Didn't Want Nick Viall as the Bachelor

USmagazine.com:
State of disbelief! Izzy Goodkind sat down with Us Weekly Video and exclusively revealed how she felt when her former Bachelor in Paradise costar Nick Viall was picked as the season 21 Bachelor. Watch what she said in the video above!

Viall, a two-time Bachelorette runner-up who dated Jen Saviano on Paradise season 3 over the summer, was announced as the new Bachelor on August 30. Goodkind, who competed for Ben Higgins' affections on The Bachelor season 20 earlier this year, can be counted among the many people who assumed that The Bachelorette season 12's Luke Pell would land the coveted gig instead.

"You should have seen my face when they pulled [Nick] out to announce it," Goodkind, 25, tells Us. "When I went onto Ben's season, they announced Nick first as [the Bachelor on After Paradise] kind of like a joke, and I remember I started crying. I called my mom like, 'I don't want to do it. I don't want to be on The Bachelor if Nick's the Bachelor.' So when they brought him out again [this year], I said, 'Oh, this has to be a joke.'"

Nick Viall Regrets Revealing He Slept with Andi Dorfman

People.com:
It used to be that what happened in The Bachelor Fantasy Suites, stayed in The Bachelor Fantasy Suites. But that all changed when Nick Viall came into the picture.

"I don't think sex is a taboo thing," Viall tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week's issue. The next Bachelor famously revealed on national television that he had slept with Bachelorette Andi Dorfman while on her season, and his intimate relationship with Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe was a major story line on hers.

Says Viall: "I'm an open book so I don't mind the fact that it's out there. People are well aware of the fact that Andi and I slept together, as well Kaitlyn and I, but I slept with two women that at the time I felt deeply for and thought there was a good chance I could end up with."

The frustrating part, says the 35-year-old entrepreneur, "is that people can't be objective. By a lot of people's opinions, I'm slutty or a man whore simply because of those two things. It's a little silly. I'm no saint, but that's not who I am."

However, when it comes to spilling the beans about his sexual past with Dorfman live on After the Final Rose in 2014, "I regret that in the sense that it unnecessarily and unfairly caused Andi to get a lot of flack. I wasn't trying to accomplish that. Women have as much right as men to do whatever they want behind closed doors."
